About Om Kolthoum

Om Kolthoum (أم كلثوم, also spelled Umm Kulthum or Oum Kalthoum) was Egypt's 'Star of the East' and the most celebrated Arab singer of the 20th century. Her long, improvised concerts with composers such as Riad Al Sunbati, Mohammed Abdel Wahab and Baligh Hamdi drew audiences across the Arab world, and her monthly radio broadcasts brought cities to a standstill. Her recordings remain the foundation of classical Arabic song.
